Andy Freed | Geography Graduate Student

Statement

My name is Andy. I'm a graduate student in the geography department at portland state university. I'm here because I genuinely enjoy geography. Since that answer doesn't suit most people, I also expect that having a graduate degree in geography may help my geo-related job prospects.

Although I enjoy all areas of geography (that I've encountered so far), I'm primarily focused on cartography and GIS/techniques with a increasing interest in urban geography. I also often think about geographic education, sustainability, and all that other good stuff. My thesis topic focuses on interactive map usability and digital atlases.

I received my B.A. in Geography from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. The faculty and community were excellent and only cemented my interest in the subject.

I am currently working on my thesis proposal and sadly not attending classes. I would really rather be a full time student, but life is complicated.

If you know of any good ways of passing flash-based content to a database, let me know.
